Even perfect Spring weather in Lexington seemed to welcome the Arabian Horse Galleries to the Kentucky Horse Park at its Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, April 7. On Wednesday, February 20 2008, the first of two freight shipments were made, carrying precious art and artifacts from the former Arabian Horse Trust Museum collection from Westminster, Colorado to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. This was a historic moment because it marked the first tangible beginning to the Arabian Horse Galleries. Here is a first-person account of the experience by project manager Evie Tubbs. The Kentucky Horse Park is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is a 1,224 acre working horse farm, educational equestrian theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man’s love for the horse. It is located in Lexington, Kentucky the horse capital of the world. It is also centrally located in the United States. More than 60 annual horse shows and competitions featuring a variety of breeds are held annually. Over 1,000,000 people visit the Kentucky Horse Park annually. The 60,000 square foot International Museum of the Horse is the largest and most comprehensive equestrian museum in the world. It was founded in 1978 and is the intellectual centerpiece of the Kentucky Horse Park. The Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and the home of the Mary A. Littauer library and archives. This photo gallery walks you through imagery of the Kentucky Horse Park, the International Museum of the Horse, and expansion plans for the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
